Granite State Inspection Services is based in Amherst, so this is home for us. When you schedule an inspection here, Mike Robicheau does it himself, from the driveway to the attic. No one else comes in his place. We're veteran-owned, Mike is an InterNACHI member, and he holds a New Hampshire home inspector license (License #00790). Our goal is simple: help you understand the house you're buying so you can make your decision with confidence.

Amherst's housing ranges more widely than most towns. Around the village green, the Village Historic District has Colonial, Federal, and Greek Revival homes that have been standing for generations. Many of those homes have been added onto more than once, and each addition can bring its own framing, roofline, and drainage details. Outside the village, you'll find newer neighborhoods on wooded lots, homes near Baboosic Lake, and quiet country roads lined with stone walls.
Each of those houses needs a slightly different eye. In an antique colonial, Mike checks the condition of the original framing, the fieldstone or granite foundation, how past renovations tie into the old structure, and whether the electrical and plumbing have been updated the right way. In a newer home, the focus moves to the roof, the windows and flashing, grading and drainage, and how the house is holding up to New Hampshire's freeze-thaw cycles.
Most Amherst properties have a private well and an on-site septic system. Pennichuck serves some areas, and the town operates a community septic system at Baboosic Lake. For many buyers, especially people moving from a city or suburb, this is their first home with a well and septic system, and we're glad to walk you through it.
During a full home inspection, Mike looks at the visible parts of the plumbing system, including the well equipment, pressure tank, water treatment equipment, and how water drains out of the home. Septic systems are buried, so they usually get a separate evaluation by a septic professional, and we'll tell you if what we see suggests you should arrange one. If you'd like to know what's in your water, we offer water testing as an add-on. Visit our services page for details.
Our full home inspection covers the major systems and components of the house:
You're welcome to come along. Many clients join Mike for the last part of the inspection so he can show them what he found and answer questions in person. Not every issue is a deal-breaker, and Mike will tell you plainly which items matter most. Read more on what to expect on inspection day.
We write our reports in AEYES and deliver them within 24 hours of the inspection, usually sooner. You'll get an easy-to-read online version and a PDF to share with your agent or attorney. Each report includes clear photos and plain-English explanations. See what our reports look like.

Yes. Older homes in and around the Village Historic District are some of our favorite inspections. Mike looks closely at original framing, stone foundations, chimneys, and how decades of updates were connected to the original house. If you're planning exterior changes later, keep in mind that the town's Historic District Commission may need to review them.
